Led by school leaders and community partners, this training helps schools connect with families and community to enhance student learning and achievement.

What Will You Learn?

This training is designed for a school team led by the principal and
four additional team members that could include: a teacher leader,
school secretary, parents, family advocate, nurse, counselor or
community partner.  Your school team will plan and work together to
create an implementation plan during this training. Each school needs
to bring a copy of their School Improvement Plan (SIP).

Each Team will:

  • Explore the latest research on the impact of family and community on academic achievement
  • Assess how your school currently works with families and community
  • Identify tools and strategies to improve communication with your families and community
  • Strengthen family supportive practices as part of your

School Improvement Plan
The Guidebook and Resource Kit provides the following:

  • Achieving Family Friendly Schools Rubricã
  • Seven Strategies: A step-by-step process for team leaders
  • Family Friendly Assessment Activities
  • Research Studies
  • Community Resources
  • A Process to Integrate Family Support Strategies with School Improvement Planning
  • Practical Ideas and Tips to Build a Family Friendly School
  • Examples of Successful Schools

The Achieving Family Friendly Training is delivered in two sessions. The first full-day session is followed in 60 days by a second full-day session. Each team member receives the Achieving Family Friendly Schools Guidebook that includes specific tools and activities to build a family friendly school. In addition, each school team receives a complete Achieving Family Friendly Schools Resource Kit, which includes a Guidebook, videos, CD with program implementation materials and an up-to-date research summary.

COST:           $1200 PER TEAM

$600 PER TEAM for members of Washington Alliance for Better Schools

Washington Alliance School Districts:  Clover Park, Edmonds, Everett, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Lake Washington, Marysville, Mukilteo, Northshore, Shoreline, Tukwila.
